Genre and Codes & Conventions

The underlying genre of my film will be psychological thriller where it will focus on lots of the intense details being built through the main character’s psychology. Me and my partners had come to a decision that our film will encircle how trauma caused a person’s characteristics to shift sharply and the consequence of being hurted. 

The film’s primary color tone will be dark like black, dark green, dark brown to give a scary and intense vibe for the viewers. A dark color tone also helps to easily drive the audience’s moods and feelings into the ongoing storyline. Since this is a psychological film, this decision will give a haunting, infatuated feeling which is exactly what we want.

Previously, we planned to aim from the age of 12 but as there are some killing scenes within the film, it may not be really appropriate for teenagers at that age. Later on, the final target audience will be young adolescents from 18 and above. However, we believe that the most participated group will be from the age of 16 to 18 years old. Furthermore, We didn’t decide which gender we are specialized to because the number of watchers is evenly distributed between male and female. Besides that, the film doesn’t have any specific requirement about nationality as it’s available worldwide for anybody. 

To appeal to the young generation, our underlying issue is about mental breakdown which is a common matter that most teenagers are concerned about. Additionally, using the privilege of being a young person, in my preference, I used to like intense and dramatic films therefore I think that my peers would also be attracted to this kind of plot. 

AUDIENCE

Institution & Distribution

Since our target audience are young teenagers from the age of 16, we decided that we will launch our opening sequence on Netflix - it’s a famous streaming platform among the young generation. Able to get a slot on Netflix will certainly boost our film’s popularity among people around the world since Netflix is a global platform. According to the findings of a recent survey, around 75 percent of respondents aged 18 to 34 subscribed to Netflix as of mid-2021. Netflix has 230.7 Million Subscribers as of the fourth quarter of 2022. 

Besides that, we will promote the movie through social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram. Surveys suggest that over 90 percent of teenagers use social media and that approximately 75 percent have at least one active social media profile by age 17. TikTok has replaced Facebook in the hearts of teenagers. The share of 13-17s using Facebook dropped from 72% in 2015 to 34% in 2022. The poster of the movie will be posted on several movie-lover groups where there are many potential audiences. Furthermore, we can create an Instagram account for the main character - Max to increase engagement with the audience. The account will upload some behind the scene footage of how the characters are interacting with each other. Additionally, on Tiktok, we can upload a short sneak peek of the movie to intrigue the viewers and increase the popularity of the film.
