Firstly, the student music video section gives a brief introduction of the course for me as it helps me to build a basic standard for the production of my future music video and what is expected to achieve a high grade. Secondly, the opportunity of analysing two different professional music videos raise some hints and tips for me on how to produce a successful music video through the use of various technical elements. Thirdly, the analysis of the digipak gives me a general idea of how my final real digipak would look like as well as what should be included on the cover. Moreover, band websites and camera angles are all related on how the music video will be constructed and the marketing scheme of the surrounding competitive partners compared to others.
Genre
Differ to similar products, this section enriched my basic understanding of the music video industry. Digging deep into the history of the music video allows me to have knowledge about the origin and development of this type of media. Furthermore, the music video theory provide the expectations that will be appeared in the production of each music video such as Andrew Goodwin’s theory. The research of the conventions of different genre provide the unique characteristics that will appeared for each specific genre which would help us as the audience to easily identify. The last section is music video styles where it composed of various types that the producers can decide to construct based on its music genre and lyrics.
Institutions
Institution is the most straightforward channel where the research of different famous directors are essential for the type of genres that we choose to produce. Besides from getting in touch with directors, I also adopted a short social media survey to take feedback and comments on the audiences. The survey allows different view of the current prevalent social platforms to strengthen my level of accuracy in choosing the type of genre that I want. The research also shows how the artist utilise these platform and acts it as a marketing scheme tool for selling sales.
